Murano Glass and Burano Lace Tour from Venice

Murano Glass and Burano Lace Tour from Venice

Situated just across the Venetian Lagoon from Venice, the lovely islands of Murano and Burano are world-renowned for their traditional artisan crafts. You’ll meet up with your guide in central Venice for the short boat ride to Murano, a picturesque grouping of islands that has been home to some of the world’s finest artisan glassblowers since the 13th century.
Visit the workshop of a local glassblower to watch delicate forms take shape from molten glass through a combination of rolling, shaping with iron tools and blowing through a long metal tube. Learn tricks of the trade, like how minerals are added to give the candy-colored vases and chandeliers of Murano their vibrant hue. Enjoy some free time on the island to explore other workshops and perhaps pick up a souvenir to take home.
Hop back on the boat for the scenic ride to Burano, where traditional lacemaking workshops are scattered among the island’s brightly colored homes. Learn about the history of Burano lace and how it was once sought after by monarchs across Europe for its exquisite quality. You’ll get a chance to watch local craftswomen creating lace through a series of finely detailed weaving and stitching, carrying on a tradition that has thrived here for centuries.
If you like, visit the Burano Lace Museum on your own to delve even deeper into the history of this elegant craft. Enjoy free time to explore the island and peruse local shops before the return boat trip to Venice.

Our guide (Chiara/Claire) really made this tour wonderful. She is a local Venetian, very charismatic, funny, and a fantastic storyteller!! Not only did she give us the history of the islands, which are both very beautiful, but she also gave us charming anecdotal stories too. The glass factory we visited on Murano was really amazing. The demonstration was awesome, better than we could have imagined. The family that owns the factory is very pleasant. We really enjoyed our visit. Burano is a really beautiful island, very relaxing to just walk around and visit. Really enjoyed the history of lace making. Overall time well spent. I would highly recommend!!

I really enjoyed this tour. The boat ride was so much fun and both islands are beautiful. Be prepared the the Murano Glass and Burano Lace are really expensive, so chances are, you might not be able to afford any. But seeing the demonstrations are definitely worth it. Also our guide Chiara was a blast I hope I didn't misspell her name. She was so much fun and as well as the history and facts about the islands and the lagoon, shared a lot of tips on things to try and places to visit. Next I time I visit Venice, I would definitely look into going on a tour with her again :

An excellent tour and a great way to see both islands. The glass blowing demonstration on Murano was very good. Some free time to explore the glass shop as well as a walk of the town. The lace demonstration in Burano was great. A lovely town to walk around in with all the shops and colourful buildings. We could have easily spent a day there. Our guide Christina from City Wonders Ltd was very informative and personable, a wonderful day spent!

Lovely day tour to Murano and Burano. There is not much to do on these two islands, but its nice to see their way of life and learn about their history. It was more of a relaxing tour and highly recommend it if you want to just get away from all the tourists in Venice.

Good way to get away from the bustle of Venice for several hours. We even bought 2 lace centerpieces when my wife and I coudn't decide. You can negotiate on the glass and lace. Also get shipped home tax free.

This was a great way to see Murano and Burano. Alessandra, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information as we traveled between islands. The glass blowing demonstration on Murano was excellent and we had a good amount of time to look through the shop and/or explore the island. We enjoyed the lace making demonstration on Burano and it was nice to know we were buying lace that was made there and not from China like other shops sell. We had plenty of time to explore Burano before heading back on the boat and Alessandra had directions for anyone wanting to get back to Venice on their own. It was great to have a guide with so much knowledge of the area and we appreciated her recommendations about Venice as well. We would recommend this tour to anyone wanting a taste of both islands during their stay in Venice.

Lovely guide. Enjoyable afternoon with comfortable private boat. Glass very expensive probably only for the rich or dreamers! Burano very pretty.
