What You Can Expect

Chiapas Combo Tour: Palenque Mayan Ruins, Agua Azul and Misol-Ha Waterfall

Marvel at the beauty of the waterfalls of Agua Azul!

Depart from your hotel in either Tuxtla Gutiérrez or San Cristóbal de las Casas and begin the scenic journey to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Palenque in a comfortable and air-conditioned minivan (4.5-hours from Tuxtla; 3.5-hours from San Cristobal).

Enter the ancient Mayan site and feel the unique atmosphere created by the dense jungle scenery and colossal monuments. Follow your guide as you gain insight into the history and construction of the ancient buildings, many of which date back to 600AD; marvel at the architectural precision of the Temple of the Inscriptions (Templo de las Inscripciones), so named because of the decorative hieroglyphics within.

Once your cultural knowledge has been heightened, return to the minivan and venture to Misol-Ha for a refreshing and revitalising dip. Nestled amid the dense vegetation of the rainforest, the 98-foot (30-meter) waterfall is a spectacular sight; make a splash in the natural pool of water below the fall, or simply absorb the natural splendour of your surroundings on the banks. Satisfy an appetite for authenticity by purchasing local specialities from a traditional restaurant nearby (own expense) then return to the minivan for the tour’s conclusive destination.

Become mesmerized by the spectacular series of turquoise waterfalls that comprises Agua Azul. Declared Chiapa’s most popular natural attraction due to the distinct nature of the falls, Aqua Azul is a protected haven that also harbors some impressive wildlife. Look out for playful monkeys and colorful toucans as you absorb the stunning sights from a series of platforms.

Return to your minivan to relax during the journey back to your hotel in either Tuxtla Gutiérrez or San Cristóbal de las Casas.
