This 4-hour train ride through the Swiss Alps on the Bernina Express starts at the St. Moritz railway station in the center of the city. Your train departs at 9:30a.m. sharp, so make sure to show up a little early to give yourself some lead time.
Get ready for a scenic train ride where you can catch sight of glaciers, mountains, gorges, and even a palm tree of two through the huge panoramic windows. Part of the train track is considered a Unesco World Heritage site, which is one of the only few train tracks to ever be considered. Plus, the train cars are air-conditioned to keep you comfortable, and a trolley comes by to offer snacks and beverages along the way (own expense).
During your trip, pass by the city of Chur, which is known as one of the oldest cities in all of Switzerland. Ride along the Plessur River, and pass two lakes, Lago Bianco and Lej Nair. Enjoy the alpine scenery on the Bernina Pass, and watch as the Mediterranean atmosphere comes into view as you reach the Poschiavo Valley.
After making it to Tirano, your train then goes back to the city you started in — St. Moritz.
