Meet your guide at your Reykjavik hotel and hop aboard your comfortable minibus for the journey to the Golden Circle. Admire Iceland’s stark landscapes and hear interesting snippets about the country’s geology and nature as you travel to your first stop; Thingvellir National Park.
Enjoy several photo ops on a drive around the UNESCO-listed park’s main attractions, including the site of Iceland’s first parliamentary assemblies. Stop to see the continental rift, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates lie above ground, and listen as your guide explains this geological phenomenon.
Continue to the Gullfoss waterfall whose angled, double-tier cascades plunge into a canyon. Walk closer to the falls and close your eyes to fully appreciate the roar of the water. If you wish, have lunch (own expense) here at the Gullfoss café.
Next, head to the Geysir geothermal area. Stroll around the bubbling hot springs, and watch the famous Strokkur geyser erupt. Capture the water jet on camera, browse the shop, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings as your guide introduces the places of interest. Your minibus has free WiFi, so you can instantly share any photos.
Then, visit the spectacular waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss. Walk behind the Seljalandsfoss cascade (waterproof jackets recommended) before continuing to Skógafoss, and climb the path to see the waterfall from above.
Back on the road, keep your camera ready during a scenic drive along Iceland’s south coast. Pass Sólheimasandur's black sands and the volcanoes of Eyjafjallajökull and Katla, and stop at Reynisfjara black-sand beach, famous for its Reynisdrangar basalt rock cliffs.
After taking in the power of Mother Nature here, return to Reykjavik for a hotel drop-off.
