After morning pickup from your Reykjavik hotel, chat to your private guide as you travel by air-conditioned vehicle to Iceland’s south coast.

One of the country’s most beautiful areas, the country's southern shores are dominated by basalt cliffs, black beaches, volcanoes, glaciers and lava formations crying out to be captured on camera. As you travel, hear tales of the area’s geology and nature, and as your tour is private and its itinerary flexible, let your guide know if you want to spend more or less time at any sights.

Stop first at two famous landmarks: the waterfalls of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss. Walk up to the thundering 196-feet (60-meter) falls of Skogafoss, and then drink in fairy-tale like Seljalandsfoss, whose waters plummet over an ancient sea cliff, leaving a walkable path behind the cascades.

Then, drive past the towering Eyjafjallajokull volcano, famous for the eruption that closed much of Europe’s airspace during the spring of 2010. Take photos of this ice-capped mountain as you hear how it dates back 800,000 years, and as such, is thought to be the oldest active strato volcano in the country.

Next, visit the black sand beaches at Vik, Iceland’s southernmost village. Witness the striking basalt column sea cliffs and feel the awesome power of the North Atlantic Ocean as you walk on the dark sands. In summer, you may also visit the Dyrholaey promontory, also known as Keyhole Island, to see puffins nesting on its cliff faces.

At other points in your tour, walk up to the tip of a glacier and enjoy a stop for lunch (own expense). Depending on the weather and your preferences, you may also make additional stops at other beauty spots.

Your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off in Reykjavik.
