After the morning free in Reykjavik, begin your 7-hour tour with pickup from your central hotel. Your tour will include a stop to buy refreshments (own expense).
Settle inside your air-conditioned minivan or coach, and admire Iceland’s volcanic plains and peaks on route to Thingvellir National Park, the first of three Golden Circle stops.
Absorb the sparse beauty of the UNESCO-listed park as you hear its history. Stop at the Althing, where Iceland’s first parliament met in 930 AD, and visit the Thingvellir rift, where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia face each other.
Walk in the rift valley and then visit the Geysir geothermal area, with its hot springs, steam vents, and geysers. Stroll around the bubbling pools, and watch the giant Strokkur geyser erupt, spouting water up to 65.6 feet (20 meters) high.
Next, continue to the Gullfoss waterfall. Formed from meltwater from the Langjökull glacier, this double-tiered fall plunges into a canyon and is extraordinarily beautiful.
After a surprise stop at one of Iceland’s lesser-known wonders, drive on to the Faxi waterfall, a stunning, wide cascade complete with a fish ladder to help salmon swim upstream.
Your tour concludes with a drop-off near your Reykjavik hotel.
