Overview

Oudong was the capital of the Khmer Empire from 17th century until 1866, when it was moved to Phnom Penh. Several temples along with innumerable palm trees punctuate the horizon, and stupas containing the remains of several great Khmer kings can be found here. This day trip from Phnom Penh includes lunch and personal blessing by the monks during a traditional ceremony.
  • Oudong day trip from Phnom Penh
  • Participate in a blessing ceremony with Buddhist monks
  • Khmer set lunch at a local restaurant
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
After hotel pickup, depart in the morning for Oudong, located about 24 miles (40 km) north of Phnom Penh. Listen as your guide narrates the history of this former capital of the Khmer Empire, situated atop two parallel ridges that offer spectacular views. On arrival, head to the summit of Oudong (also called Phnom Udong) and look out over the surrounding countryside. Then take a leisurely stroll through ancient structures, such as temples and stupas.

Next, take part in a traditional Khmer ceremony performed by Buddhist monks who sprinkle water and flowers and offer a personal blessing during 5 to 10 minutes of chanting. The ritual is believed to cleanse bad spirits from the past and bring good fortune for the coming year. You will receive a small string to tie around your wrist as a customary symbol of this memorable experience.

Afterward, you're served a Khmer set lunch at a local restaurant before traveling back to Phnom Penh with drop-off at your hotel.
