Meet your guide and small group of no more than 8 people in central Marseille to begin your bike tour of the French Riviera. After a safety briefing and a quick lesson on how to ride your electric bike, saddle up and set off around the Old Port.
The first points of interest are the La Criée National Theater and the Mucem museum, which opened in 2013 for Marseille’s year as Europe’s Capital of Culture. Continue to Joliette Dock to see the old maritime warehouses, now transformed into a modern complex of shops and restaurants.
Jump off to snap photos of the contemporary Minoterie theatre, housed in an old wheat mill, and the Silo, a grain silo transformed into a popular entertainment venue. Stop for refreshments (own expense) in the South Dock, as your guide tells stories about the city’s 21st-century redevelopments, and offers insider tips on the Marseille’s best venues, nightlife districts and festivals.
On the way back, stop by the ABD Gaston Defferre (Departemental Archives and Library), and the Regional Fund for Contemporary Art (FRAC). After a leisurely afternoon exploring the city, your tour ends back in the Old Port.
