What You Can Expect

Grand Turk Historical Sightseeing Tour by Tram

Enjoy ocean views while stopping in Cockburn Town!

Start your open-sided tram sightseeing tour of Grand Turk at the tram station near the cruise terminal at the Southern end of the island. From there, the tram takes you and your family or friends, along with a knowledgable guide, all the way to the island's northern tip and back in about 3 hours. Feeling the sun and the tropical breeze on your skin is a pleasant way to tour the island while learning about its history.

Cannons, windmills, churches, inns and other historical attractions keep your guide busy pointing out the local sights. Pass many wild horses and donkeys, the Space Capsule, and Governor's Beach on your way to Cockburn Town, where you'll stop to sample some local foods and have a cool drink (not included in tour price). Disembark in historic Cockburn Town and visit some of the local shops and restaurants.

Back on the tram, pass Her Majesty's Prison and the National Building, both historical relics with interesting colonial architecture. On your way to the Grand Turk Lighthouse at the very northern end of the island, pass Crabtree Park and North Creek. Get a history lesson in Grand Turk's once-booming salt industry as you pass the natural salt ponds, known as 'salinas'. Dating back to the 1600s, these salt ponds were once the lifeblood of the islands, and are now home to flamingos and other tropical birds. After getting your fill of local sights and history, your tour ends back at the tram station.

Very good guide, fun and full of information. We fed wild donkeys, stopped at a very small town that had unique items for sale and great food. WE saw salt flats and many more interesting sites. Tour was just the right amount of time and gave us a chance to go to the beautiful beach and shops near the ship.

I much prefer this trip to the profit-sucking cruise-line tour. Tracy our guide was so personable and I knew the profits were staying on the island instead of being shared with an off-shore mega company. Doug, my email contact, was responsive and helpful. Just be aware that you will have to take a little hike to leave the cruise ship compound and meet your transportation.

Grand Turk has been repeatedly devastated by hurricanes. The recent one junked the trams that were previously used so we were transported by bus. Doug said the new trams would be arriving soon. Also, don't expect glitzy tourist shops along the way. The tiny town of Cockburn has friendly vendors in cramped shops and a chance to taste some local cuisine. Tracy our guide brought special goodies with him to share with his favorite feral donkeys and dogs. I appreciated his compassion.

Our tour guide did a great job as we toured the island. The lighthouse is a gem! We saw the salt lakes, quarry, wild donkeys, flamingos and spaceship Friendship from 1962. Well worth the time.

The tour was GREAT! Very informative and you hit all the spots on the Island. Everyone here is so friendly and great to talk to!
I can't say enough by our tour guide, Tracy! He was funny, knowledgeable and you felt safe while he was driving can't say that about most excursions
This was really worth it - great trip for the price!

I enjoyed this tour. The driver was very friendly and informative. My only problem was my confirmation paperwork said to meet at the white sands resort, I walked to the resort and it was closed due to recent hurricane damage. I walked the beach twice looking for the meeting spot and it was exhausting. Finally, I took my phone off of airplane mode and called the company, and was told the new meeting place was right by the dock where we exited the ship..... once I found the location, the staff was VERY FRIENDLY! When you exit the ship I was on Carnival watch for a bright yellow umbrella right by the dock on the left side in front of Margaritaville! and save yourself A LOT of walking! This may change, of course, when the resort is repaired and reopened but from the look of the extent of the damage that may take awhile.....

This was a great all around the island tour. We got to see from one end of the island to the other. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained all the sights and answered any questions we had. It was a little bit of a walk to get to the pick up point but all in all it was a great experience. Good for people who don't like to do a lot of walking.
