Receive a pickup from your Big Island hotel at a pre-determined time of your choosing. You’ll travel via private vehicle and the assistance of certified Hawaii Volcanoes National Park guide over the sky-high Saddle Road towards Mauna Kea State Park.
Make your first stop of the day for a catered picnic lunch at the state park before driving between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa volcanoes heading for Hilo. You’ll spend the next portion of your trip enjoying the numerous sights in and around Hilo, including the King Kamehameha Statue, Big Island Candies, and Rainbow Falls. Depart from Hilo on a drive through the area’s lush rainforest as you head for the famous Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
When you arrive at this volcanic landmark, spend your visit learning about the unique geologic forces that shaped the Hawaiian Islands. Wander near the edge of caldera (volcanic crate), check out a lava tube, and feel the heat pulsing from a steam vent. Then learn about the belief system of Hawaiian locals, a mythology that included ‘Pele,’ the goddess of fire, and look for some of the park’s indigenous plant and animal life.
As your Big Island tour continues into the evening, take a break for an included dinner at Kilauea Lodge, the premier dining experience near this famous volcano. Grab a cocktail such as a passion fruit margarita, get toasty by the fire, and dig into a dinner featuring favorites like fresh-caught fish or steak. Cap off your day by visiting Halemaumau Crater, an active volcanic area that emits an eerie orange glow after dark. Finish with a drop-off back at your Big Island hotel.
Please note: for those guests who enjoy hiking, your trip can also be customized to included an excursion along the floor of Kilauea Iki or a walk at Mauna Ulu, among other options.
