Bangkok Walking Tour: Chao Phraya Riverside Paths of Thonburi

Bangkok Walking Tour: Chao Phraya Riverside Paths of Thonburi

This tour avoids the tourist crowds and gives a glimpse at local life in Bangkok’s original communities.

Make your way to Yodpiman River Walk in Bangkok where you will meet your guide.  After a short introduction you will take the public ferry to cross to Thonburi, situated on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River.
After you disembark, start your small-group walking tour around the area of Khlong San and Kuddeejeen, known for its diverse community of Buddhists, Christians and Muslims. During your 3-hour excursion you’ll pass several shrines, mosques and sites of both ethnic Chinese and Portuguese Catholics, as well as view the early 19th-century temple of Wat Kalayanamit.

You will stroll along riverside walks and small backstreets and learn about the area’s history. You will stop to explore the quaint community of Kudeejeen and sample their famous snack. When you reach the Princess Mother Memorial Park, stop to visit a replica of the late royal mother's childhood home. The lush public space features gardens, a pavilion and exhibition halls with royal memorabilia on display. Your tour will conclude at Tha Din Daeng, a local foodie's paradise. From here you can either grab some lunch or head back across the river to Chinatown.

Please note: The walking tour covers about 2 miles (3.5 km), and the pace is suitable for anyone with moderate fitness.
