Verona might be best known for its rich Roman and Renaissance heritage, but the historic city has a number of excellent modern and contemporary art museums too. Top of the list is the Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Forti, which hosts an impressive permanent collection of 19th and 20th century works from a variety of international artists.
Inaugurated in 1982 and housed in the elegant 13th-century Palazzo Forti, the gallery’s highlights include masterpieces by Magritte, Picasso, Klee and Kandinsky. Also notable is the sizable collection of works by Italian artists, among them Felice Casorati, Guido Trentini and Francesco Hayez, and contemporary works by artists like Vanessa Beecroft and Giulio Paolini. Temporary exhibitions are also held regularly at the gallery.
The Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Forti is located in central Verona, close to the Cathedral and the Torre dei Lamberti, and is open from June-Sept, Tues-Sun 11am-7pm and Oct-May Tues-Fri 10am-6pm & Sat-Sun 11am-7pm. Admission is €4.
