Podskali Custom House Tours

Located on the embankment of the Vltava River, the Podskali Custom House showcases the history of the now-extinct Podskali settlement in Prague. The 16th-century custom house is all that remains of the settlement, which arose in the 12th century and was the site of the largest and richest wood market in the city, until it was gradually demolished as Prague expanded at the end of the 19th century. The custom house now holds a small museum on the second floor with photographs and models showcasing the life of the Podskali people and their history of freight and passenger transportation along the river.

Built in a Gothic style, the house features a plastered ground floor and a second floor that resembles a log cabin. Check out the architecture and history for free with the Prague Welcome Card, which includes admission to other museums and monuments, including the Astronomical Clock Tower, Wallenstein Palace, and City Gallery Prague.

Practical Info

The Podskali Custom House can be found just north of the Zeleznici bridge on the east side of the Vltava River. It can be reached by public transportation, taking Metro B to the Karlovo náměstí stop or tram 3, 7, or 17 to the Výtoň stop. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9am to 6pm, and is closed on Mondays. Adult admission costs 30 CZK, but visitors holding the Prague Welcome Card enter free of charge. The first floor of the customs house features a restaurant serving traditional Czech food.
