As if a piece of land from Africa was transported to Canada, Ontario’s African Lion Safari allows park visitors to drive their own vehicles through a large game reserve full of some of Africa’s most impressive animals. With a 9 kilometer trail through 7 distinct habitats, there are plenty of opportunities to view exotic wildlife. There is also a scenic railway, a boat cruise, and a small lake in which a herd of elephants plays. Over 1,000 different wild animals roam freely in the park, and educational presentation on birds and animals take place regularly.
Visitors have the chance to see everything from lions and giraffes to buffalo and bald eagles. It’s a particularly good place to photograph the animals, without the restrictions of a cage’s bars. There’s also a pets’ corner allowing for children to observe animals at close range, and a playground for kids. The family-friendly animal park spans more than 700 acres in total, with an additional walking area for safaris on foot.
Ontario’s African Lion Safari is a quick one hour drive from Toronto. The park is open May to October from 10 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday and until 5 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and on holidays. Admission costs $34.95 for adults and $21.95 for children. Those who prefer not to drive their own vehicle can take a informative tour bus through the park. Parking is free.
