Porec Old Town Tours

Porec is a 2000 year-old town located in the heart of the western coast of Istria. Recognised for its original architecture and historical monuments, the stonepaved streets of Porec Old Town are lined with shops, cafes, and other tourist attractions, making a pleasant stage from which to explore the area’s history.

Porec has a long and tumultuous past, and its resulting heritage can be explored within various museums and galleries hosted in the houses and palaces that have stood in the town for many centuries. One of the most notable buildings of Porec Old Town is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Euphrasian Basilica, which dates from the 6th century and is known for its distinctive Byzantine mosaics.

The Decumanus is the main street that runs east to west through the center of the Old Town. Also the main thoroughfare during prehistoric and Roman times, it’s a charming promenade for those visiting during the summer months. Elsewhere, Marafor Square is where a Roman forum was once situated, and parts of two temples can still be found here. Just north of Marafor Square are the old parliament buildings, which were converted from a Franciscan church built in the 13th and 14th centuries, and now house a museum.
